MAYODAN, N.C. — Gov. Pat McCrory on Tuesday officially announced Sturm, Ruger & Co. will open a manufacturing plant in Rockingham County.
The gun manufacturer is expected to make an investment of $26 million and create at least 450 jobs by 2017 when its third U.S. manufacturing facility opens in Mayodan, McCrory said.
Ruger announced in July it had chosen the old, more than 200,000-square-foot Unifi plant off Cardwell Road to house its first major expansion in more than 25 years. The site has been empty for at least six years.
Despite Ruger’s announcement, Graham Pervier, President of Economic Development and Tourism for the Rockingham County Partnership, told FOX8′s Carter Coyle, the final decision was “…subject to successful negotiations of state and local incentives.”
Compensation will vary by position, but the average annual salary will exceed $45,000, plus benefits.
